Making your first connection

Deva xFTP allows you to connect to a site, upload files to a server, and download files from a server to your local computer. To upload files to a server and download files from a server, you must log on to that server through your FTP client computer. Deva xFTP Connection Wizard helps you to connect to a site and save the site to the Site Manager.

To connect to an FTP site

1. From the Deva xFTP menu, select File > Connection Wizard or click Connection Wizard . The Deva xFTP Connection Wizard opens.

2. Enter the IP address of the host or the FTP URL provided to you by the administrator of the site you want to connect to in the Host Address field. For example, 70.84.59.148 or ftp.example.com.

3. Enter a name for your site in the Site Name field. You can enter any name.

4. Click Next.

5. Enter the user name given to you by your hosting provider in the User Name field.

6. Enter the password given to you by you by your hosting provider in the Password field.

7. Select a login method from the following options.

• Normal - The user name and password are mandatory to connect to a site.

• Anonymous - The site does not require any user name and password.

• Double - The user name and password are required twice to connect to a site.

8. Click Next. The Connecting to Site message box opens.

9. Click Cancel to cancel the connection or change the host address.

10. If the host address is not correct, the error message The host validation failed. Check that the username and password are correct is displayed.

11. Browse for the default folder from where you want to upload the file to the server or where you want to download the file from the server in the Default Local Folder field.

12. Enter the path of the remote folder where you want to upload the file in the Default Remote Folder field.

13. Click Next.

14. Click Finish. Deva xFTP connects to the site and saves the site in the Site Manager.
